Cuddeback Digital Trail Cameras
I recently tested a 3.0 megapixel model of the Cuddeback Digital Trail Camera. I was very excited to go to the thing and see what it can do so I went straight home and began to turn.
For most of the set-up was fairly easy. I expected the camera C size batteries as most would do, but the increased D-cells. After raiding a few flashlights I had the strength I needed. I set it to a few photos with the hope that I would be able to quickly look at the quality of the images that get the camera shipped. I took a few shots and realized that I had no way of seeing the pictures. These extinguished my enthusiasm a bit. The camera has no screen to view pictures, and it does not come with a USB cable to download to a computer. I had no time to go the shop that day so the next day I was away for an SD card I could use the photo store and find then put them on the computer. You can also buy a telescope, but I had an SD card yet so I took that route. I would really prefer a camera with a monitor on it, but this is an entry-level camera, so I guess it costs to keep a low is not included. The internal memory of the camera is not that big and can not store enough photos to be used in the field, so be aware that you purchase an SD card to effectively use this camera no matter what. The internal memory can store only low resolution images do not even bother with this option. You will not get the best from your camera and you need the convenience of a better capacity.
On the set in the field
There are two ways to set up the camera Cuddeback a tree. I'm not a big fan of either. Option one is to screw the camera directly to the tree. For some reason I trust this not because I'm not sure how to keep the tree up, and I do not want to carry around my tool bag to make a number of field photography. What if I forget the tool bag when I take the camera down? Option two is a tape recorded by the camera. This seems a little better, but bungee cords would probably work better than one option. There is a security option to block the case, so one of these methods can be made a little more secure, but the padlock is not supplied with the camera. This is par for the course. In any case, you have the opportunity to get some certainty if you feel you need it. It would be good if one method of making had a heavier cable to the unit, but for this model you have to go with one of the existing possibilities and take your chances.
Overall I was pleased with the performance costs money, just realize that you need a few extra purchases to get the most out of the equipment to get.
