How do I create an infrared array?
I try an array infrared night vision so I can a camera for an RC plane. I am using a webcam and took just the IR filter to make, but I'm not much for electronics so I'm not sure what to do to build an array so it started. Should I use Just the normal LEDs or are there special ones I should get? And the distance for viewing, sometimes the plane is a 100 meters, it is possible for an array making that goes so far? What is the maximum voltage that I need when I need to look at the use of batteries? And finally, what can I do to protect it? I suppose I them into a circuit board, so I must take all precautions to protect it like a carpet, ect?
There is useful information about infrared for CCTV on the link. On high altitude, you do not have sufficient battery power to illuminate an entire field of view, so you may have to use a spot light. This will require a reflector. 12V Popular because due to the large amount of gear with this tension. 12V battery chargers are readily available. The size of the battery required will depend on the strength of the IR array, light "on" time for the flight, and the ability of the aircraft to carry the battery weight. Practical maximum total capacity is likely around 100 watts. So experiment with 30W and allow for expansion. The whole experiment is a balancing act. A really ambitious project would result in much lower mount IR LEDs and reflectors close to the crafts. This would look to maintain a more aerodynamic and aircraft, a good degree of protection and limiting damage to a smaller area, and for providing simple vervanging of the individual lamps.
