infrared camera sensors
Is there a way to recycle old digital camera optical sensors?
So, I'm an ametuer electronics hobbyist, and I thought about creating a kind of night vision goggles. I simultaneously discovered that digital cameras sensitive to infrared and saw a party of 100 infrared LEDs on ebay for cheap, and decided to commit to the project. Principle I wonder if I could take the lens apparatus and the optical sensor of my camera and somehow use a video-out to get to a different display than the LCD is on the back of the camera. Is that possible, or are there other things that go preprocessor? I'm Envisioning the lens and optical apparatus sensor repurposed on a new logic board of my own design, incorporated with a portable display of a kind.
Tricky Project! It is possible use of the optics and the sensor in a certain way, although I would expect there would be a form of post image processing .... that would be a bit difficult to get around! Another problem that you encounter will the real perspective .... The optics are precision items and will be an important part of any new device! To them aligned with the sensor and will work a little skill! You must use made of the Infra-red LEDs to act as a flood light to illuminate the area you wish to view ..... It will be the reflected light of your mind! True night vision involves accelerating trapped photons of light and bouncing them off a phosphorescent screen. This requires rather high voltages and is not the technology that you play with! I suggest looking on eBay to a mini-camera module to buy .... load up away places in Hong Kong and may only cost you about £ 20 or so ...... These modules have a composite video signal as an output, and this would probably easier to work with! Good luck with the project!
