Infrared camera?!?

Is it really illegal for an IR camera? I've been looking for some local stores, but they say it is introduced only for military purposes

As someone said, it is legal in the U.S.. Most companies do not sell them because they are afraid to be sued if someone abuses them. Sony makes camcorders that will show in the near infrared. Fujifilm is a few cameras that will show in the near infrared. The stores probably just told them illegal because they could not think of a better excuse for not among them. If you decide to get one, I would strongly recommend buying an infrared flashlight.
