Using Remote Sensing Cameras for Deer and Wildlife Management
Our world today is considered as one that is modernized and technologically advanced. A world so convenient and yet plagued by so many social problems - the greenhouse effect, the unprecedented rise in gasoline prices and now increasing the number of animals that are considered endangered.
Several environmental organizations have advocated the preservation of the environment, while other groups have decided to take concrete measures to nature as to protect these animals to help maintain the balance of nature. Some researchers have decided to move the deer and other wildlife, so research their reproductive pattern and to identify their biological needs. This way, people are equipped to help these animals in case they are injured or when human intervention need, so that their race would continue. We have heard the story of how the dodo became extinct. In a world dominated by knowledge and information, which is not ignorant option. We have much to learn about everything around us, and thanks to new technologies such as digital cameras, we can now observe nature, live from the comfort of our houses.
Most video systems are used to study the game by using infrared, and can be categorized as passive infrared (PIR) or active infrared (AIR). PIR activated by movement or even the difference in the temperature of the background and the subject, while the AIR system is activated when the subject passes the "bar" between the transmitter and receiver. Apart from this, live cams used for wildlife management can be further subdivided into 35mm photography, digital photography, digital video and VHS video and most units are powered by dry cell batteries. Digital photography systems, digital video are usually PIR activated and uses a flash card images store, while VHS video is also activated PIR storage on VHS videotape.
Course have already made field investigations to determine which camera is best used to monitor the game and the answer varies, depending on what kind of animals are observed and the location of the cameras. Some use remote cameras to deer population census, while others try to determine age structure, identification of the dollar to be included in the harvest or protect the harvest, given the sex-ratio, and identify the overall condition of the animals. Some people say that the use of live cams in the game management is not only for research but also, it improves the quality of the deer and the hunting experience as hunters can now study the patterns of the deer they want to catch.
Now, hunters have a better idea what their doing on a deer time, which enables them to plan a hunt for the daily patterns of their game creating anticipation. Not only that, they also get an idea of how other factors like the weather affect deer cartridge. Of course, other uses of live cameras for deer and game management include advertising and marketing of hunting operations.
