Choosing between Cable release or IR remote release?
I have a Nikon D80, and I want to start taking pictures of the star trails. I realize me that I kind off camera freely move the camera to avoid the long exposure photographs. My question is, will the ML-L3 remote care for things like 'lamp' settings for my star trails? Or will I have a general cable release cord, where I can lock? Or ... there is an IR remote release that ability to "bulb" setting using easily could recommend is that you? Truth, I would rather "set and forget" for a while, then keep my finger button for hours at a time. Thanks for any advice!
I use ML-3 for star trails. It works well, I have a clip to use the button to keep it. And it runs on battery, so if in the middle of a shot from the batteries go dead, the shutter will close and you just wasted 20 minutes of your life. I would go with the cable, much cheaper and I do not think your battery (look, do not take my word). You can rig some system to keep the button pressed, but check them out, Nikon has a few really nice remote controls. A note on the ML-3, you should have focused on the sensor all the time. The remote does have a tripod mount on the bottom, but this can create problems if you a tripod have.
