scouting camera video
[PRO Videographers ONLY] Which of these cameras would you buy and why? And if you can-cons?
And yes, I am fully aware that you would not these cameras used to shoot pro video, but I am considering buying this for storyboarding and location scouting and such. Thanks for your input .. Oops! Password to the models: Canon FS100 & Sony DCRSR45
Both record standard definition. You already know the FS100 is flash memory and uses removable SD card ... SR45 and the hard disk drive (HDD) based. HDD camcorders have problems with this level of vibration (sound of loud bands, loud motorcycles - heck, even loud crowds) and problems with the high altitude (low pressure is not possible The hard disk heads to "fly on platters) and expensive data recovery challenges in the camcorder and the video pauses have not been transferred. Flash memory (and miniDV tape) camcorders not share these problems ... and when the camcorder breaks, take the media out and use a similar camcorder. And what happens if you fill the hard drive? With removable media, just by extra blank ... But back to this particular comparison ... The FS100 is a microphone jack - SR45 not ... that said, the FS100 does not have manual audio control (nor does the SR45), so you could have problems in dealing with loud noise. And the FS100 has fewer moving parts, so a battery will last longer with the same storage flash memory camcorder than with the HDD camcorder (something needs to give power to the motor that rotates the disk platters). There is more, but this is the easy things.
