What can I do to good horsepower and torque of a 406 SBC obtain a 84 Chevy Truck?
I have a 84 Chevy K20 LWB with a 4 "lift and 35" tires. I wants a bit of both worlds with HP and Torque. Got the truck with the engine speed has grown and just wanted some advice and ideas to get it going a little better. Specs on the engine: 1970 Chevy 4 bolt main 400 cubic inch 509 Casting Bored, about 030 (it is a 406 cubic inch) Flat Top Pistons 9.5 to 1 compression ratio Comp Cams Magnum Camshaft (270 H) Weiand Stealth dual plane aluminum intake manifold Edelbrock 600cfm carburetor milodón oil pan GM Performance Parts valve covers Carter high volume fuel pump Hedman ceramic coated headers I use the truck for daily driver and mudding too. I want to speed the line as possible, even for fun. Just looking for ideas to improve the engine.
All I see is that bad combo carburetor, 406 will have a 700-750 if you rap it all up more than 4500 rpm. If you want an auto tranny you may need a higher stall converter to get. Re-gearing the truck can increase performance. 4.56s with 35 inch tires will result in a final drive similar to some 3,73-4.11 s to a stock 29-30 inch band. About all I can, other than those shown for the heads to replace good if you do not have what. Chevy's Vortec heads are about as good as you can get in iron, but a good set of aluminum heads, the next step. (since you have no list of the heads I am assuming you have about 80 cups, which the poorest heads, excluding the early 90s TBI units)
