Why do most IR Receivers / transmitters use a red-tinted lens for them?
We have them in TVs, cameras, remote controls, mobile phones, etc. I was wondering why the protective lens (if that is what you call it) for mostly red IR sensor? I mean, why would not you be a different color? Is the red lens to improve transmitting / receiving signals? Just a thought. @ John: Duh ... A 3 years old can give the same answer you just posted. I'm looking for an answer that is a tad more educational than yours, but thanks for the sarcasm =)
the plastic covers are actually a # 25 filter. Infra-red is a very low frequency light, the best rejection of other sources, insert a narrow band filter for the source and receiver.
